CONFRONTING HATE TOGETHER
The Wing Luke Museum wishes the Washington State Jewish Historical Society well in moving forward with the Confronting Hate Together exhibit.
We regret that the joint exhibit was not able to move forward in the way we had originally planned, though we invested ourselves diligently with the hope of doing that.
We remain committed to this partnership and we extend our immense gratitude to the Washington State Jewish Historical Society and the Black Heritage Society of Washington State for their friendship and collaboration.
ABOUT THE EXHIBIT
What does racism, hate, antisemitism and bigotry look like today? What strategies can communities take to combat it? These questions, and more, are posed by the Confronting Hate Together exhibit. Confronting Hate Together is a pop-up exhibit that explores coalition-building and activism through the historical work of three community-based organizations.
Inspired by the 2022 Confronting Hate 1937-1952 exhibit at the New-York Historical Society in cooperation with the American Jewish Committee (AJC), Confronting Hate Together is a joint effort in solidarity by local institutions: The Black Heritage Society of Washington State, The Washington State Jewish Historical Society, and Wing Luke Museum of the Asian Pacific American Experience.
While the New-York Historical Society centered their exhibit around a groundbreaking multimedia campaign from 1937-1952 to combat growing antisemitism alongside other forms of hate against other marginalized communities before, during, and after the Holocaust, Confronting Hate Together continues the story into the 21st Century.
The exhibit contains traveling panels from the earlier exhibit that showcases the AJC’s 1937-1952 campaign, and pairs it with localized responses from the three communities today. The goal of Confronting Hate Together is to share stories that shine a light on racism, hate, antisemitism, and bigotry across all communities – and empower and inspire the communities to collaborate on strategies to fight prejudice and discrimination.
